Freilicht Open space Gallery is a groundbreaking project in Vienna, aiming to establish the city's first permanent open-air photography gallery. Through collaboration with esteemed partners and active community involvement, we aspire to celebrate the art of photography and redefine the city's cultural landscape.

Our Objectives

  • Promotion of art in public spaces

  • Hosting an annual international photo competition

  • Providing a dynamic platform for artistic expression

  • Encouraging meaningful dialogue between the museum and the public

  • Presenting photos aesthetically on weather-resistant Plexiglas panels

  • Revitalizing public spaces with a gallery at the former zoo site

Our project fosters the dissemination of art in public spaces, enhances cultural participation, and offers a unique platform for both emerging and established photographers.

+Andrej Grilc Photography Portrait exhibition
"World Portraits"

Location:  Podsreda Castle, Slovenia

Award-winning photographer Andrej Grilc is one of the most sought-after music photographers of the younger generation. He was born into a family with long tradition in photography, dating back three generations to 1942. The focus of his work is on portrait and concert photography in the field of classical music. He uses both analog and digital techniques. He draws inspiration from the old masters of photography from the French and Czech schools as well as from Italian Renaissance painting. His work can be seen regularly in exhibitions and graces the covers of major publishers such as Deutsche GrammophonDeccaSony ClassicsWarner ClassicsAlpha Classics and Naxos

Parallel Andrej Grilc passionately pursues street photography, dedicating himself to a compelling project titled "In 80 Portraits Around the World." Throughout this ongoing, multi-year endeavour, he ventures to distant locales, capturing the essence of inspiring individuals deeply rooted in their cultures. Grilc is drawn to faces from bygone eras, faces that teeter on the edge of vanishing in our rapidly evolving world and tries to preserve them via means of photography. His set of portraits of India "Portraits of Varanasi" were awarded at Natural Density Photography awards.

In the exhibition are presented selected photographs from India, Cuba, China, Israel, Egypt, Italy, Romania, Palestine, Spain and Vatican.
